about

"Wolves used to be common in the mountains out west.

But when settlers arrived, we killed off the animals that wolves used to feed on-- bison, elk, deer. And so the wolves turned to livestock-- our livestock-- for food. We were not into that at all.

So ranchers and the federal government set out to exterminate the wolves. Between 1883 and 1930, more than 80,000 wolves were killed for bounties in Montana alone. And the governor wanted everybody to know what a good job they were doing for the taxpayers. And so they put out press releases that include facts, but do not seem constrained by facts. Though it does seem true that this wolf was really good at being a wolf."

lyrics

Well hey there, Gray Devil
I heard they finally shot you down
Somewhere on the edge of town
Sorry I wasn't around
But you know it's kind of beautiful
I mean you put up the good fight
Man you knew how to travel light

Say aaoooo
Say aaoooo
Ah men
They could never understand your accent

But they gave you a name
Guess it's all the same
You traded 15 for 95
So how's it feel to still be alive?
Oh but you must miss that thrill
Tell me how many did you kill?
Or what was it they took from you?
I heard outlaws can't be victims, is that true?

Say aaoooo
Say aaoooo
Ah men
They could never understand your accent
